(the perfect) sugar cookies
the holiday season is finally here! even though it's still technically november, i don't feel as bad posting a recipe on christmas cookies because, well, thanksgiving is over and we all know what's just around the corner...
and these are just too delicious not to share! i'm all for classic, simple, delicate desserts. these fit the category quite nicely, because they don't just look lovely, they taste absolutely amazing, as well. and half of the fun is getting to use different cookie cutters--the possibilities are basically are endless.
i made these last christmas, and i should have made more because i was trying sooo hard not to eat all of them. they were still delicious 3 days after. so yes, please, make these and avoid the post-christmas blues entirely because you'll have these to much on.
ingredients:
one egg
one cup of sugar
one cup of butter (2 sticks)
2 tsp of vanilla
3 cups of flour
1.5 tbsp of baking powder
powdered sugar (optional)
instructions
- cream sugar and butter until it becomes light and a bit airy
- add eggs and vanilla
- add dry ingredients together slowly to fully incorporate the mixture
- roll out the dough
(i did this between two sheets of wax paper) to the desired thickness (i did about 2 cm thick) - chill in the refrigerator
(i did it for an hour, which was enough) - cut out the cookies into desired shapes and bake at 350F for about 8-10 minutes
- sprinkle with powdered sugar
(this part is optional, but i would highly recommend it!)
i tend to like my cookies softer, so i baked them for a shorter amount of time.
i can't get over how good these are, and how excited i am to make these again this year! i also found some promising recipes for chocolate sugar cookies, so i'm definitely going to give those a try and a test. keep your eyes peeled, the holiday recipes have just begun :)
